Summary of Converting from an Electric Stove to a Gas Stove
People will call in and ask about how to change an electric cook top over to gas. They want to get a gas range hooked up, or an oven. If you have gas there already, that’s pretty easy. We just hook up the gas to it. But if you don’t have gas there we need to figure out a way to get gas to the stove’s location.
A lot of the work depends on the pipe sizing in the house. Some people call and say their water heater’s right there next to the stove. It should be easy.
Well, we have to make sure that you have enough gas going to that water heater to also provide gas for that cook top. So I’ve really got to come in and look at the whole house. I have to assess what your gas usage is now, and what size gas lines you have in the attic, and if we can draw some gas from there.
Usually, we can come from the attic, maybe cut a small hole behind the cooktop, and drop it down on the wall. Sometimes we have to do a little bit more sheet rock damage than that, but usually it’s very minor.
