How to Do Garbage Disposal Repair

Call 281-302-6710 for help with your garbage disposal or with any other plumbing problem.  In this video, Sugar Land Master Plumber Bryan Graham talks about how he does garbage disposal repair.  Of course, you never put your hand inside the garbage disposal while the power is on.

Graham Plumbing Services is an A+ rated plumber according to the Houston Better Business Bureau.  We provide free, guaranteed estimates for all types of work except sewer repairs.  Call us today at 281-302-6710 or us our contact form to send us a message.

Here’s a summary of the information in the garbage disposal repair video.

A lot of times what happens is there’s a couple of different things that a homeowner can do when a garbage disposal breaks or they have an issue with the garbage disposal.

Well, the first thing is that if you hear it humming and making noise, but it’s not grinding, then you’ve got the garbage disposal jammed. There’s a little Allen screw on the bottom of the garbage disposal — maybe I’ll make a video and show where that is at a future point — where you can actually turn that manually with an Allen wrench and get it un-jammed. And then you turn the garbage disposal on and that helps it.

The other thing is if it’s not making any noise, it’s not buzzing or doing anything like that, there’s also on the bottom of the disposal a reset button. Sometimes that reset button kicks. It kind of like a GFI plug at your house or something like that, and you can go under there and press that reset button, and it usually will start working again. Sometimes that reset button kicks because it’s jammed, so you may end up having to do both.

If it’s leaking or none of that works, then the next step is a replacement. That’s pretty much the only two things that can go wrong with a garbage disposal. If it’s leaking from the actual housing, then it’s going to have to be replaced. If it just won’t kick on, maybe the motor burnt up or something like that, and then it will need to be replaced.
